Captain Haleola Kitewhetu is a native of the Chʼil Awoshí Station. Earth, to her, is a blue marble one hundred thousand kilometers away, around which they orbit every few days. It is the source of both necessities, such as food, and trouble, such as tourists and business people who pass through the station on their way to Luna or one of the other outposts in the system.
The station is hers, but their relationship is complex. It is not a military outpost, although the military is present. Almost all of the inhabitants are civilians. Dozens of habitats, some of which in turn house dozens of independent groups, are both united and independent. Some groups owe allegiance to an Earth nation or corporation. Some hide behind acronyms with no clear loyalties to anyone but themselves. All, regardless of their own self-interests, must defer to her judgement when it comes to the safety and well-being of the massive city in space affectionately known as Tumbleweed.
